Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics

The Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics deals with all types of dental and skeletal malocclusion. This includes treatments with simple removable appliances, more complicated growth modifying appliances, fixed functional appliances and fixed appliances.

The Department also coordinates with the Department of Oral Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery, in the treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate and craniofacial syndrome. The Department is also associated with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the management of surgical orthognathic patients. Other associations include the Institute of Endodontics, Periodontics and Prosthodontics.

Eligibility: A pass in the subject of Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) & English in individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in PCB at 10+2 level for General Category and for SC/ ST/ OBC be at 40% and OPH candidates be 45%Eligibility:

Recognized BDS degree and completion of 1 year internship on or before 31st March of the admission year.

B.D.S students admitted under this course are introduced to the basic materials and metallurgy used in the field of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, including concepts of soldering and welding. The syllabus of orthodontics is introduced by way of didactic orthodontic theory classes which begin in the 3rd year.

The 1st year covers the basic sciences where they would have to sit for an exam. They are introduced to the basic concepts of orthodontics and are required to undergo wire bending exercises and pre-clinical typodont exercises before entering the clinics.
