M.D. Psychiatry

The Postgraduate candidate is needed to acquire knowledge, skills and desirable attitude in the principles and Practice of Psychiatry. Psychology studies the human behaviour. Subjects studied under this degree are Psychology, Biology, Learning Theories, Information Processing – Brain Models of Mind, Experimental Animal Research and Implications for Mental Disorders and Clinical Psychiatry.

Programme Objectives:

At the end of postgraduate training the student should be able to:

  • Carryout an understanding of Bio-Psycho-Social, economic and emotional aspects of Psychiatric illness including possible preventions
  • Deal with the legal complications of psychiatric illnesses (emergencies)
  • Play the assigned role in the implementation of National Mental Health Programme
  • Practice his specialty ethically
  • Demonstrate sufficient understanding of basic sciences related to his specialty
  • Diagnose and manage majority of conditions in his specialty (clinically and with the help of relevant investigations)
  • Plan and advice measures for the prevention and rehabilitation of patients belonging to his specialty
  • Demonstrate competence in basic concepts or research methodology
  • Develop good teaching and clinical skills
